I came across Liner and Elsen Wine Merchants on Twitter. I had no idea what I was missing. In business for 20 years they moved to a larger location three years ago. Now at 3000 square feet they carry 2000 labels and a lot of respect. They have been nationally recognized for their expert selection, friendly customer service, and extensive inventory of the best wines of the Pacific Northwest and the world
BON APPETIT – “Liner & Elsen is considered the city’s most comprehensive wine shop by hard-core oenophiles.”
NORTHWEST PALATE – Readers’ Choice Award”Oregon’s Best Wine Shop”
GOURMET – “Portland’s premier wine shop”
WINE PRESS NORTHWEST – “Portland’s largest and most popular”
OREGON WINE PRESS – “Deep and focused selections from all over the world… This is a serious wine shop.”
PDX MAGAZINE – “No bottle hits the shelves without being tasted and approved by the erudite staff.”
WILLAMETTE WEEK – “The enormous, wide-ranging stock includes just as many amazing deals as it does luxury bottles.”
They enjoy answering questions and making recommendations about which wines to serve with a particular meal, picking out key ingredients. They taste all of the wine before they approve it to sell. To find knowledgeable people who love to share is a beautiful thing indeed. Of course they have the fine expensive wines but they also know the good inexpensive wines as well.
Friday tastings – Great tastings held on the first and third Fridays of each month. We serve a “flight” of five wines and usually a super-pour (extra $ and optional). Informal and fun. Served from 5:30 to 7:30. Fee.
If you want to follow someone who knows their wine, in Oregon and worldwide, you need to follow them on Twitter.
