Teutonic Wine Company

From Tuetonic Wine Company –

Teutonic Wine Company is a boutique winery focusing on terrior-driven style wines. Our primary focus is to bring out the flavors of the soil where the fruit was grown in each bottle of wine. We do this by practicing spontaneous fermentation, which means we use the natural yeast found on the grapes to ferment our wines. By doing this, we can bring out the individual flavors of the terrior.

Our inspiration comes from the mineral-driven wines of the Middle Mosel in Germany. Rock, slate, flint- these are all mineral explosions we want to you to experience when you drink our wines. This style makes for extremely food-friendly wines, especially wild game meats and anything with a lot of salt and fat, as well as earthy flavors like mushrooms. Thus the pheasant on our label- we are a FOOD wine. All our wines are lighter in style with a lower alcohol content that most wines you see in Oregon. Our Pinot Noir clocks in at 12.5% alcohol by volume.

We are a husband and wife team, Barnaby and Olga Tuttle. Barnaby was the general manager and wine steward for Papa Haydn Restaurant in SE Portland for many years and became intrigued with German wines after meeting wine importer Ewald Moseler. After visiting the Middle Mosel and other surrounding areas, the next step was only natural – to make wines in the same style and tradition in Oregon as they have in Germany for generations. Teutonic Wine Company launched its first commercial vintage in 2008, bringing an old world style Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier to the Portland market. In 2009, we produced a kabinett-style Riesling, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir Rose. 2010 will be an interesting year for many reasons.

We will be pouring our wines are various wines shops in the Portland Metropolitan area in the next few months. Check out our website (events page) for dates and locations and come see us.
